Patrick J. Rooney (82) former St. Maries resident, died Dec. 3, 2010 at New Berlin, WI. He was born Feb. 2, 1928 to Peter and Marcella (Thorn) Rooney at Grandville, WI. He graduated from St. Catheran's grade school in 1941 and from Custer High School in 1945. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering . He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1949.
Mr. Rooney was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad as a trainmaster. He was stationed for a time in St. Maries, ID. He married Shirley Posselt on June 11, 1971 at Milbank, S.D. He retired from Milwaukee R.R. In 1985 after 36 years with the company and returned to St. Maries.
He was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Elks and Eagles lodges in St. Maries. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Benewah Council on Aging. His wife died in 1995.
He is survived by his son Patrick O. Rooney and wife Debbie of Hartford, WI and his son and daughter-in-law Daniel M. and Dona of New Berlin, WI, his grandaughter Kelly of New Berlin, WI.; his sisters Mabel Lecher of Brookfield, WI and Kathleen Gardapee of Fon du Lac, WI Also surviving are brother Gerald E. Rooney of Milwaukee, WI . He is also survived by step-sons Ken Posselt of St. Maries, and Kim Posselt of Trout Creek, MT. There are 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as well as 15 nieces and 12 nephews surviving. He was preceded in death by brother Michael Rooney and his step-daughter Julie Mitchell.
