Former Alaska resident Helen Mary Halliwill, 66, of La Crosse, Wis., died Nov. 1, 1999, at the Franciscan-Skemp Health Care facility. A memorial service was held in La Crosse.

Born March 14, 1933, to Clyde and Inez (Brown) Silver, she married Jerome Halliwill in 1954. She had lived in Alaska since 1956, and left the state just a few months ago. Mrs. Halliwill was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, on Aug. 14, 1998.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Laura and Brad Julsrud of La Crosse and Terri Halliwill of Chugiak; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sandra Halliwill of Anchorage; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Fran Gustine of Rochester, Minn., Inez Brown of Hendersonville, N.C., and Barbara Robinson of Roseville, Minn.

Longtime Alaskan and Chugiak resident Jerome H. Halliwill, 65, died Aug. 14, 1998, at Alaska Regional Hospital of respiratory failure. A service was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with a visitation. His ashes will be scattered in Nebasna and a memorial placed at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Mr. Halliwill was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Wadena, Minn. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. Moving to Alaska in 1956, he lived in Anchorage until 1983, when he moved to Chugiak. He had been employed with the city of Anchorage during the 1960s and left to work as a building contractor until 1984. His sense of purpose and self-reliance helped him build many homes in Anchorage, his family said. He then worked as a driver for United Lumber and Alaska Builder's Cache until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Halliwill was a member of the American Legion. He loved hunting, camping and exploring Alaska. His special interests were his family and grandchildren. He loved to tell stories and visit with numerous friends and relatives. His family said: ''His sense of humor, spirited approach to life and work and love of his family were absolute. Jerry was a rare man of complete honesty and integrity. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.''

Mr. Halliwill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen; daughter, Terri Halliwill of Chugiak; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sandra Halliwill of Anchorage, and their children, Todd, Jessica and Kyle; and his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Brad Julsrud of LaCrosse, Wis., and their children,Matthew, Siri and Erika. The family requests that memorial donations be sent to Chugiak Senior Center Inc., 22424 N. Birchwood Loop Road, Chugiak 99567.
