Arrangements are by Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton. He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in St. Paul. At the age of 9, he went to live with the Andrew and Clorinda Murphy family on a farm near St. Cloud. He married Emma Elizabeth Bohlman on March 29, 1937, in Moorhead. They lived in Casselton, N.D. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad for many years. They moved in 1951 to the Twin Cities area where Joe worked for North Star Bus Company in St. Paul as a bus driver and mechanic. He later moved to Newport and worked at Dahlen Transport Company as a mechanic for many years. In 1983, they moved to Holloway and later to Appleton. Following retirement they spent winters in Arizona and Texas. He is survived by three children: Joseph (and MaryAnne) Murphy of Cottage Grove, Donna (and John) Powers of Montevideo and Colleen (and Duane) Powell of Appleton; daughter-in-law: Margaret Murphy of Appleton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Myra Scherer of Cold Spring and Mildred (and Virgil) Egerman of St. Cloud. She loved "white" laundry, old time dancing, straight curtains and even hanging shades. She was a member of St. James Parish, Christian Women and Cold Spring and St. Joseph Legion Auxiliaries. Myra enjoyed cooking, dancing, and especially spending time with her family. Her best friend was her identical twin sister, Muriel. Myra is survived by her children, Sheryl (Richard) Mertes of Elkhorn, WI, Mary Jo (Dennis) Duncombe of Sandy, Utah, Michael (Ann) of St. Joseph, Charles (Ann) of St. Joseph, Kimberly (David) DeHaan of Elkhorn, WI; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Mildred (Virgil) Egerman of St. Cloud. Millie graduated from the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing in 1949 and worked at the St. Cloud Hospital and the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center. She was a member of the Retired Nurses Association, the Nurses Alumni of the St. Cloud Hospital, the Christian Women and St. Peter's Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended for many years. Millie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and pets. She also enjoyed giving of her time and nursing skills by volunteering for various organizations throughout the St. Cloud area. Millie was an avid Minnesota Twins and North Stars fan who enjoyed watching games and following the players. She also enjoyed traveling and going to the casino. She is survived by her husband, Virgil, of 64 years; children, Karen Egerman, of Bellingham, WA, Kate (Fred) Henson, of East Greenbush, NY and Lynn (Brian) Orcutt, of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Sara (Joe) Bye, Rachel (Kent) Grove, Joe (Cheyenne) Orcutt; and eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
