Anteo James Bocchi Born 27 Jan 1915 Virginia, St. Louis Co, MN, died 31 Mar 2008 Hopkins, Hennepin, Minnesota, USA, age 93 years Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Holy Spirit Ca tholic Church in Virginia. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, fro m 6 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 7:30 p.m. in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Hom e in Virginia. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour pri or to the Mass. Bocchi, age 93, a lifelong resident of Virginia, died Monday , March 31, 2008, in the Virginia Convalescent Center. He was born to Pietro and Irene (Fioravanti) Bocchi on Jan. 27, 1915 , in Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Roosevelt High School, Virgi nia Junior College and the University of Minnesota with a bachelor o f science degree in education. Anteo served during World War II. A decorated veteran of the U.S. Arm y Air Corps, His citations include the ETO Service Medal, Victory Meda l, Air Medal with two silver leaves, two bronze leaves, and two Battl e Stars for 68 bombing missions. Anteo worked for the Oliver Iron Mining Division in Virginia and a s a school teacher in North Dakota prior to his military service. In S eptember 1945, he joined the Virginia Fire Department. From February 1 963 until his retirement in December 1984, he held the position of fir e chief. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Military Order of th e Cootie (Wake-Em-Up Pup Tent No. 4), Northern Club of Virginia, Virgi nia Winter Sports Club, Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legio n Post 239, International Association of Fire Chiefs, Minnesota Stat e Fire Chiefs Association, Knights of Columbus Council 1640, 3rd Degre e; Mesabi Community College Alumni Association, Sons of Italy of Virgi nia, Italian-American Club of Virginia, Crellin-Tini Veterans of Forei gn Wars Post 1113, an honorary member of the International Associatio n of Fire Fighters, the National Fire Protection Association, the Nati onal D-Day Museum, and the World War II Memorial Society. Anteo also s erved as the commander and quartermaster of both the local and Eight h District VFW organizations. On Oct. 29, 1946, he was joined in holy matrimony to Betty Mae Roone y at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Virginia. They were marrie d for 60 years until her death on July 21, 2007. Anteo is survived by his children, Carol (Ed) Yoder of Crossville, Ten n., Tom (Carol) Bocchi of Burlington, Wis., Curt (Colleen) Bocchi of M innetonka, Minn., Mary McAfee of Albuquerque, N.M., Patty (Jeff) Tum a of Shorewood, Minn., David (Shelly) Bocchi of Vadnais Heights, Minn. , and Jim (Annette) Bocchi of Apple Valley, Minn.; grandchildren, Cath erine Yehling, Michelle Cramer, Gary Faulkner, Holly Bocchi, Sarah For tin, Michael Bocchi, Emily McAfee, Brett and Bryce Tuma, Alex Bocchi , and Dan, Andy and Dana Bocchi; and great-grandchildren, Madisen an d Jacob Cramer, Jared Faulkner and Wesley Fortin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, and his thre e sisters, Clementina Anderson, Ursula Bocchi and Alida Knudsen.
