Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 11 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Julius Beckermann, OSB and Rev. Sylvester Kleinschmidt will concelebrate with interment following in St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery in Padua. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday followed by Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Kay Rooney was born March 8, 1928 in Raymond Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Francis and Josephine (Jasken) Rooney. On August 11, 1947 she married Virgil Walz at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Padua. The couple began farming in North Fork Township, Stearns County in 1950 and they were members of the St. Anthony of Padua Parish, where she was active in Christian Mothers and taught catechism. She retired in 1985 and moved to Sauk Centre in 1990. She managed the BBE Foodshelf in Brooten and also was a driver for Stearns County Social Services for many years. Since August she had resided at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Kay was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, playing Upwords, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Roger Walz of Brooten, Cheryl (Ron) Wagner of Hutchinson, Marilyn Edman of New London, Gail (Scott Kramer) Eibensteiner of Melrose, Barb (Dennis) Gregory of Richmond, Virginia "Ginny" (Marvin) Borgerding of Brooten, Mark (Tammy) Walz of Sauk Centre, Michille (Leon VanderEsch) Braegelmann of Cold Spring and Alan (Milissa) Walz of Holdingford; 35 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Joan Domke of St. Paul, Fran (George) Zilliox, Gerald (Georgia) Rooney, all of Belgrade, Norene Miller of St. Cloud, Phil (Jeannie) Rooney of Burnsville, Sharon (David) Beseke of Brooten, David (Karen) Rooney of Woodbury, Dan (Jude) Rooney of Prescott, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil Walz on May 1, 1988; daughter, Arlene Walz on October 28, 2004; sister, Pat Kelley; brothers, Richard Rooney and infant John. Serving as casket bearers will be Craig Walz, Erica Van Beck, Anthony Wagner, Shawn Edman, Nick Eibensteiner, Brent Gregory, Adam Borgerding, and Mike Walz. Zilliox, 81 of Belgrade, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Elrosa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade where there will be a 7:00 pm. Parish prayer service. Visitation will continue on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at church. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred Frances Josephine Rooney Zilliox, was born on July 25, 1932, on the family farm near Padua, the daughter of Francis and Josephine (Jasken) Rooney. Frances graduated from Brooten High School in 1951. Frances was united in marriage to George Zilliox on September 5, 1987. Fran loved spending time with her large family. You could always count on Frances for a cup of coffee, a competitive game of cards or poker, a long conversation & a good laugh. Frances loved to dance with George and go on long walks. Most of all she loved to hear from her grandkids. She is survived by her husband, George, her six children, Terry, Gordon, Cindy, Wanda, Scott, and Tom; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan, Gerald, Norene, Phillip, Sharon, David and Dan. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Kathleen, Pat and Richard. 5. Rooney, age 75 of rural Brooten, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home. A private celebration of life and inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Padua, Minnesota. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten. Richard Joseph Rooney the son of Francis and Josephine (Jasken) Rooney was born on April 20, 1934 in Padua, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm near Padua and attended rural country school. Richard attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Richard lived and farmed for most of his life on the farm where he was born and raised. After his father passed away at a young age, Richard helped raise several of his siblings. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad in St. Paul, Minnesota for 12 years. In the more recent years, Richard spent several winters in Arizona. He enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively. He also enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino with friends and relatives. He was an active member of the St. Anthony Church and Padua community. He will be remembered for his kind spirit and famous one-liners. Richard is survived by his siblings, Kathleen Walz of Sauk Centre, Joan Domke of St. Paul, Fran (George) Zilliox of Belgrade, Gerald (Georgia) Rooney of Belgrade, Norene Miller of St. Cloud, Phil Rooney (Jeannie) of Burnsville, Sharon (David) Beseke of Brooten, David (Karen) Rooney of Woodbury, & Dan (Jude) Rooney of Prescott, WI; several nieces,nephews and other relatives and friends. Gerald Michael RooneyBorn 20 May 1935 Padua, Stearns County, Minnesota, died 5 Sep 2016 Sauk Centre, Stearns County, Minnesota, age 81 years Gerald "Jerry" M. Rooney, 81 of Belgrade, was 81 years of age when he passed away at Getty Street Assisted Living in Sauk Centre, on Monday, September 05, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade where there will be a 5:30 Rosary and 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service. Visitation will continue on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gerald Michael Rooney was born on May 20, 1935 in Sauk Centre, the son of Francis and Josephine (Jasken) Rooney. He grew up on the family farm near Padua with 11 siblings where he attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse and Brooten high school. On January 21, 1956, Jerry was united in marriage to Georgia Felling in Elrosa and they celebrated 60 years together. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. Initially, they made their home in St. Paul, MN where he worked for the Great Northern Railroad and was a member of the MN National Guard. The young family moved to Belgrade in 1961 where, over the years, Jerry worked as a realtor, and as the owner and operator of Rooney's Oil Co. and Truck Stop. In his early years as an entrepreneur, Jerry worked up to seven days a week, often attending meetings after work. His first business was a root beer stand in Sauk Centre, MN which was displaced by I-94. He had sections of it moved to Belgrade after purchasing the North Star Station and Restaurant. In this location, he was active in promoting and growing Belgrade. He designed, built and managed two mobile home courts. He helped bring funding to Belgrade that built two HUD apartment buildings. He brought improvements to the fire department as a volunteer member, EMT and Fire-chief. In the late 1970's, he had the old Northstar Gas Station and Restaurant torn down and built a brand new structure that housed the gas station and Crow Country Cafe. He also promoted building the Belgrade pool and he enjoyed calling bingo for the Commercial Club. His passing away on Labor Day seems appropriate because he was a hard working individual his entire life. Jerry was a very social person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved a good poker game, cribbage game, horse shoes, and a hearty discussion of politics and government. He was a great dancer and enjoyed dances with Georgia. They were active members of St. Francis de Sales Catholic church. Jerry enjoyed watching his children grow. They all had the chance to work for him at the gas station and/or the restaurant. It was a lively household with a vibrant give and take of ideas and opinions. A cabin on Grove Lake was the culmination of a dream Jerry and Georgia had and it is a place that holds many happy memories for the family. Jerry was always happy to see his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they all brought him much joy! Life was never easy for Jerry, but he somehow managed to laugh with gusto and had a marvelous twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes and loved to tease people by giving them a"hard time". His stoicism and fortitude were admirable. He moved to Sauk Centre in 2013 where he was a resident of Getty Street Assisted Living. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Georgia; children, Rick (Sandy) Rooney of Hayward, WI, Robin (John) Rooney-Rongitsch of Maple Grove, RoxAnne (Robert) Petterson of Black River Falls, WI, RaMona (Albert) Gruber of Sauk Centre, Rodney(Lora) Rooney of Ammon, Idaho, and Russel (Shelly) Rooney of Belgrade, MN; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joan Domke, Norene Miller, Phillip (Jeanne) Rooney, Sharon Beseke, David (Karen) Rooney and Dan (Jude) Rooney; and survived by in-laws: George Zilliox, Delores and Howard Handeland, Dorothy Unger, Shirley Goering, Betty Felling; also, many nieces and nephews. He died of complications a few hours after his birth in the St. Cloud Hospital. John had eleven brothers and sisters and was one of the middle children. John is buried in Padua with his parents, grandparents Michael and Margaret Rooney, great grandfather Thomas Rooney, and many other relatives. | |||
