Thomas immigrated to the US from Canada at age 16. Thomas and his wife Elizabeth were first cousins once-removed, both on the Rooney side. He died of heart trouble.

Elizabeth, the last-born of her siblings, was the only one not born in Canada. George and Evie Kukowski said there was another sibling named Joseph, born in 1867, who lived only one day. No record has been found.

Elizabeth died in childbirth, as did her baby, her 10th child. Elizabeth and her husband Thomas were first cousins once-removed, both on the Rooney side.

Death of Mrs. Thos. Egan

Died on August 11, at her home two miles east of Sedan, Mrs. Eliza Egan, wife of Thomas E. Egan. Deceased was born in St. Paul, Minn., Nov. 9, 1866, and therefore was 38 years of age. Beside the grief stricken husband there remains to mourn her loss, seven children, ranging in age from 15 to 2 years. News of her death came as a great shock, she having only a few hours warning of the approaching end. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to the heartbroken husband and father in his hour of great affliction. Funeral services were held at Padua, Saturday, August 13th and the procession was one of the largest that ever followed a dear departed one to the last resting place.

Thomas E. Egan was born on January 31, 1862, to Patrick and Elinor (Rooney) Egan in Upper Wakefield, Quebec, Canada. He was the oldest of nine children.

Elizabeth (Eliza) Rooney was born November 8, 1866, in St. Paul, MN., to John and Mary (McCool) Rooney. She was the youngest of twelve children.

Thomas Egan married Eliza Rooney on March 5, 1889, in Minneapolis at the church of St. Anthony of Padua. They had ten children: Clarence C., William Edmund (Bill), George F., Cleve, Mary, James Joseph, Mary Ellen, Inez, and two babies that died at birth.

Thomas died in Bangor Township, Pope County, on July 31, 1928. Eliza died August 11, 1904, during childbirth of their tenth child. The baby is buried with her. Thomas and Eliza's children, William E. and Inez, are also buried in Padua.

Thomas' parents, brother Joseph, and Eliza's parents, brothers and sisters, Catherine Martin, Michael J., James, Thomas T., William, and Mary Ann Egan, are buried in Padua.

Medical: Clarence was a veteran of World War I. He farmed with his brother north of Brooten until 1955 when they moved to Kandota township, north of Sauk Centre.

According to Clarence Egan, his uncles James, Thomas T., Mike, and John Rooney went west hunting buffalo after the locusts destroyed all their crops in Padua. James Rooney left his wife and family with his parents, John and Mary Rooney. They were gone for about four years. They had a lot of buffalo hides and were returning home when the Indians took all the hides away from them. Thomas T. Rooney froze his big toe and lost it hunting buffalo.

William Edmund Egan was born on May 31, 1891, in Bangor Township, Pope County, to Thomas and Eliza (RooneY) Egan. He was the second oldest of ten children. William (Bill) lived to be 97 years old and thus was able to pass along family history information and stories. He would sit on a step and talk to his niece and to those who were willing to listen.

Bill died July 22, 1988, in Arden Hills, MN. Bill is buried near his sister Inez and his parents.

Cleve Egan passed away suddenly September 16, 1974 at the Glenwood Community Hospital.

Cleve was born April 11, 1894, in Brooten, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Rooney) Egan. He attended school in the Pope County School System and continued his education at the Unversity of Minnesota Farm School. Cleve married Margaret Sullivan on October 28, 1925 at St. Patrick's Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Egan's resided in the Twin Cities where Cleve was employed as a Electro Typer for a Printing Firm. In May 1965 they moved to Alexandria. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and an active member of the Ave Maria Runestone Knights of Columbus Council No. 4718.

Funeral Mass was September 19, 1974 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alexandria, with Rev. Arthur Hoppe officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Ave Maria Runestone Knights of Columbus Council No. 4718. Pallbearers were Norbert J. Berberich, Leo G. Unger, Raymond Trousil, Herman Hiebel, Anton Hammer and Leo J. Hammer. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Services directed by Alexandria Funeral Home.

Inez Egan was born on September 5, 1902, in Bangor Township, Pope County, to Thomas and Eliza (Rooney) Egan. She was the ninth child of ten children. Her given name was Agnes Elizabeth Egan, but went by Inez. She never married. Inez was a school teacher and taught in the area.

Inez died of a brain tumor, and is buried beside her brother William. Her parents are also buried in Padua.
