Leonard was born in Raymond township in Stearns county, baptized and confirmed in Padua, MN, attended grade school in Padua and high school in Brooten, MN and married Viola in Sedan, MN in 1945. They moved to Portland, OR in 1952, where Leonard worked in the ESCO Foundry Plant. They moved back to MN in 1955, farming until retiring in 1992. They lived in an apartment inBrooten, MN and later moved to Sedan, MN.
Leonard was the Bangor township treasurer, a church trustee for many years and sang in the choir.

Leonard J. Rooney, age 78, of Sedan, died Thursday morning at the Glacial Ridge Hospital, Glenwood.

Leonard was born in Raymond Township, Stearns County, on March 19, 1918, of the parents William and Helena (Riedel) Rooney. He was baptized and confirmed at Padua. He attended grade school at Padua and high school in Brooten. He married Viola Lokowitch on November 6, 1945, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, officiated by Father Adolph Schmidt. In 1952, they moved to Portland, Oregon, where Leonard worked in the ESCO Foundry Plant. They moved back to Minnesota in 1955, farming until retiring in 1992. They lived in an apartment in Brooten until moving into Sedan in late December.

Leonard was the Bangor Township treasurer, a church trustee for many years and sang in the choir. He enjoyed being with and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed walking in the pasture and playing cards with his family.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Viola of Sedan, five sons, Ronald (Donna) of Emily, Thomas (Ruth) of Palo Verde, CA, Daniel of Rulo, NE, Timothy of Montrose, and Anthony (Sandra) of Sedan; three daughters, Carol Rooney of Brooten, Marilynn (Steven) Lysen of Benson, and Jean Rooney of Byron; 14 grandchildren, Andy, Stefanie, Jason, Dwayne, Weldon, Scott, Rusty, Kristi, Karla, John, Patrick, Jason, Amy and Nathan; six great-grandchildren, Nick, Donovan, Kyle, Brian, Sara and Alex; and sister, Agnes Steinhoff of St. Cloud.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Edmund, Joe, Felix, Walter, Emmett, Leo, Robert and Howard; two sisters, Mary Ahles and Marvel Majerus.

Viola A. Rooney, age 89 of Glenwood, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 25th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and parish prayers at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Sedan. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Viola Anna Rooney, the daughter of Mathias and Christine (Ridle) Lokowitch was born on December 31, 1920 in Pierz, Minnesota. She grew up in St. Cloud and attended St. Augustine's Catholic Church. She attended school at Riverview in St. Cloud. Viola was employed at Brown and Bigelow in St. Paul and Char-Gale in St. Cloud before marriage.

On November 6, 1945, Viola was united in marriage to Leonard Rooney at the Immaculate Conception Church in Sedan. The couple made their home in rural Brooten. Viola and Leonard moved to Portland, Oregon from 1952 - 1955 when they moved back to the farm in rural Brooten. This marriage was blessed with eight children. Viola and Leonard shared 51 years of marriage before Leonard passed away on March 13, 1997.

Viola was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Sedan and later Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. She belonged to the Immaculate Conception Christian Mothers. She enjoyed handiwork including tatting and crocheting. Playing cards was a great past time as well as Yahtzee. Time with her family was the greatest joy; she especially loved the hugs from the little ones. Viola will be remembered for her soft-spoken, quiet manner, her deep faith in God and devotion to Our Lady. She dedicated her life to her family and home.

Viola is survived by her children: Ronald (Ilona) Rooney of Emily, MN, Thomas Rooney of Brooten, MN, Carol Rooney of Brooten, MN, Marilynn Lysen of Glenwood, MN, Jean Rooney of Rochester, MN, Daniel Rooney of Brooten, MN, Timothy Rooney of Montrose, MN, and Anthony (Sandy) Rooney of Sedan, MN; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rooney of Belgrade, MN; other relatives and friends. Viola is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother; and two sisters.

Daniel Rooney age 59 of Brooten, died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Pra irie Senior Cottages in Alexandria. A Mass of Christian Burial will b e held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 11th at St. Donatus Cathol ic Church in Brooten with Father Mark Ostendorf officiating. Visitatio n will be Wednesday from 4:00 7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funera l Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service a t the church. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemeter y in Sedan. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home i n Glenwood.

Daniel Michael Rooney, the son of Leonard and Viola (Lokowitch) Roone y was born on August 24, 1955 in Portland, OR. Dan was baptized at Sac red Heart Catholic Church in Portland. His family moved to rural Broot en, Minnesota when he was young and he grew up there on a farm. He wa s a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sedan where h e was confirmed in 1969. He attended school in Brooten and graduated f rom Brooten High School in 1973.

Along with working on the family farm, after graduation Dan began work ing at 3M in Alexandria. Shortly thereafter he took over the family fa rm. He started working at WASP in Glenwood, in 1987. He was transferre d to Falls City, NE for work in February, 1989 and continued to work i n Nebraska as the plant supervisor for the next 18 years. In July of 2 007, Dan transferred back to Glenwood to be close to his family. He re tired in December 2010. Dan was married and was blessed with three chi ldren, Patrick, Jason and Amy.

Dan was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a devoted member o f St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten. He enjoyed playing cards, Ya htzee, playing sports with his kids and grandchildren and fishing. H e also enjoyed spending time on the farm, gardening, going for drive s and spending time with family and friends. He loved the Minnesota Vi kings and was a dedicated Vikings fan regardless of their performance . He will be remembered for his soft spoken, quiet manner, his quiet y et witty sense of humor and his deep faith in God and devotion to Ou r Lady.

Dan is survived by his sons, Patrick (Nicole) Rooney of Glenwood and J ason (special friend, Heather Schmitz) Rooney of Las Vegas, NV; daught er, Amy (Jason) VanZee of Glenwood; grandchildren, Peyton Rooney, Dyla n, Jackson and Paisley VanZee; sisters, Carol Rooney of Brooten, Maril ynn Lysen of Glenwood and Jean Rooney of Rochester; brothers, Ronald ( Ilona) Rooney of Emily, Thomas Rooney of Brooten, Timothy Rooney of Mo ntrose and Anthony (Sandy) Rooney of Sedan; nieces, nephews, other rel atives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Viola Rooney.
