MRS. WILLIAM ROONEY

Mrs. William Rooney, 1424 Bellmont Road, Duluth, died suddenly at her home Friday afternoon. She was the former Mary Raden of Avon and was 58 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband in October, 1956 and by one brother.

Surviving are her children Mrs. Leonard Nelson (Mary Ellen), Mrs. Kenneth Chaflin (Mary Ann) and Kathleen, all of Duluth.

Brothers and sisters surviving are: William Raden, Puylalla, Wash.; Ben and Leo, Milwaukee; Mrs. Frank Jochum, Cold Sprin;, Pete, Hampton, VA.; Mrs Ralph Machren and Melvin, Avon; Mrs George Stuck, St. Cloud.

Feneral services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony church.

Mary Ellen Nelson, 72, of S. Arlington Avenue, died, Tuesday March 29, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born June 22, 1932 to William and Mary (Raden) Rooney in Duluth, Minn. Mary Ellen graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950. She married Leonard Nelson on June 30, 1951 in Duluth, where they have been lifelong residents. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the St. Joseph's Plus 55 Club. Her parents precede her in death. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Leonard; her daughters, Lynn LaPlante of Duluth; Susan (Lynn) Crane of Duluth; Laurie (Gene) Whitbeck of Mound, Minn.; her sons, Stephen (Joan Bren) Nelson of Bloomington, Minn.; Richard (Brenda) Nelson of Duluth; her sisters, Kathleen Dinkel of Duluth and Mary Ann (Bill) Engel of Duluth; her grandchildren, Andrea and Renae LaPlante; Kirstin and Bryan Whitbeck; her great grandchildren, Maria and Zachary. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospice and I.C.U. Units for there comforting care. VISITATION:5p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. Wake Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duluth Heights, with a visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. KATHLEEN IRENE DINKEL

Kathleen Irene Dinkel, 82, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2016, in St. Eligius Health Center following health issues with heart and kidney disease.

Kathleen Irene, the daughter of Mary Bridgett (Raden) and William Robert Rooney, was born March 2, 1934 in Ladysmith, Wis.

She married Frederick William Dinkel on Feb. 13, 1962 in Duluth.

Kathleen was a former member of St. John's Church, Woodland, and current member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor, where she was an active member who enjoyed playing piano for services. She was a homemaker and foster mother.

She loved playing her piano, listening to music on her Bose radio and playing cards with her best friend Rayanne Swanson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; brothers-in-law, William Engels and Francis Dinkel; and by her sister, Mary Ellen Nelson.

Kathleen is survived by her two sons, William R. Carleton (Judy McPherson) of Rochester, Minn., and William F. (Joyce) Melchert-Dinkel of Faribault, Minn; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Anne Engels of Duluth; brother-in-law, Leonard Nelson of Otsego, Minn,; sister-in-law, Agnes Dinkel of Duluth; and many nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016 in Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Monday, June 6, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rose Catholic Church, 3 6th Ave., Proctor. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Woodland.
