Martin E. "Mike" Chamberlain, 91, of Taconite, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Home and Comfort.
He was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Clontarf, Minn., the son of Lilly and Dan Chamberlain. Martin and Amelia Pianfetti were married on Feb. 9, 1946, in Hibbing. Mike graduated from the University of Minnesota as a valedictorian with a degree in business administration. He worked for 42 years as a mine controller for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company. He was elected for 41 years of service as the clerk of Taconite.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Taconite. Mike loved being with his family, especially at the cabin, and he enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Amelia, of Taconite; sons: Dennis (Dolores) of Watsonville, Calif., Paul (Rita) of Eagan, Minn., Jerome (Pam) of New Ulm, Minn., and Mark (Jane) of Bovey; daughters, Mary Ann (Bob) Jens of St. Paul, and Jean (Dennis) Jennings of Libertyville, Ill.; sisters: Kathleen, Madeline "Honey," and Shirley; a brother, Terry; grandchildren: Martin, Patrick, Matt, Staci, Michael, Jessica, Sam, Meghan, Aaron, Max and Mariel; great-grandchildren: Eleora, Michael, Savannah, Evelyn and Cody; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gerald "Dan," Tim and Mickey; a sister, Muriel Holzemer; grandsons Bobby Jens and Jonathan Chamberlain; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Chamberlain.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine.

In one letter from Lil to her sister Kate Gaffaney (who was living wit h husband Jim, daughter Julia, and son Ambrose on his farm) in Novembe r 1943, she says, “Timmy came home in Sep. He had another attack of M alaria and had written that he was just out of the hosp. I’d been pre tty worried about him when one day he stepped off the bus. He had com e by Air Pacific across the Pacific from Brisbane to San Francisco & h ad enough time to spend a week at home. he is rather thin, & older lo oking & quite nervous & restless. when he went back to Calif. he go t Malaria again & was in the hosp in Santa Ana, then he was sent to Tu cson Ariz. as a plane dispatcher …”
Tim officially died of encephalitis. He became ill in Seattle while o n Air Force reserve maneuvers, returned home and became somewhat paral yzed and then developed other symptoms and died in a veteran’s hospita l. But his brother Martin (“Mike”) said in a letter to Lyle Martin, “ Timmy had a terribly sun stroke in 1969, and after lingering for a cou ple of months in the hospital died around Sept. 1, 1969.”

Kathleen (Chamberlain) LeClair, 88, of Taconite, died Friday, Sept. 24 , 2010, surrounded by family after a courageous fight with cancer.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Lily and Dennis Chamber lain; her loving husband, Dellwood LeClair; her daughter, Tereasa (Pat ) Covier; her sister, Muriel Holzemer; her brothers, Mike, Dan, Micke y and Tim Chamberlain.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Kay Preston of Bemidji; Dell (Da wn) LeClair of Bovey; Bernadette LeClair of Eagan, Michelle "Micki' (M ick) Metzer of Coleraine; Debra LeClair (Joe Marinaro) of Blaine; Barb ara (Roger) Erjavec of Shakopee; Kevin LeClair of Taconite; 25 grandch ildren, 41 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; he r sisters, Shirley (Richard) Stocco of Nashwauk and Honey (Al) Medin a of Fort Worth, Texas; her brother, Terry (Dorie) Chamberlain of For t Worth, Texas; and sister-in-law, Amelia Chamberlain of Taconite.
Kathleen was the 2000 Itasca County Senior Citizen of the Year, a memb er of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, Cursill o, Taconite Elderberries, Triad, Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital Auxi liary, KIWI and numerous other volunteer activities.
VISITATION: 6-8 P.M. Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 in the Peterson Funeral Ch apel of Coleraine and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, preceding the Mass of C hristian Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Taconite. Intermen t will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine.
